Student Terms & Conditions

These Student Terms & Conditions ("Student Terms") supplement our mainTerms of Service and apply specifically to students using the LPlate platform to book driving lessons. Please read these terms carefully before booking your first lesson.
1. Eligibility and Requirements
1.1 Age Requirements
- You must be at least 16 years old to book driving lessons
- Students under 18 require parental or guardian consent
- Valid identification may be required for verification
1.2 Provisional Driving Licence
- You must hold a valid UK provisional driving licence
- Your licence must be brought to every lesson
- Lessons cannot proceed without a valid licence
- Any licence restrictions must be disclosed when booking
1.3 Medical Fitness
- You must be medically fit to drive safely
- Any medical conditions affecting driving ability must be disclosed
- Prescription glasses/contact lenses must be worn if required
- Instructors may refuse lessons if you appear unfit to drive
2. Booking and Payment
2.1 Booking Process
- All bookings must be made through the LPlate platform
- Payment is required at the time of booking
- Booking confirmation will be sent via email/SMS
- Instructor contact details are provided upon confirmation
2.2 Lesson Prices
- Prices are set by individual instructors
- All prices include VAT where applicable
- Additional fees (e.g., test day services) are clearly disclosed
- Prices may vary based on lesson type and location
2.3 Payment Terms
- Payment is processed securely via Stripe Connect
- We accept all major credit and debit cards
- Payments are non-refundable except as outlined in our cancellation policy
- Receipts are automatically emailed after payment
3. Lesson Scheduling and Changes
3.1 Scheduling
- Lessons are scheduled based on instructor availability
- Standard lesson duration is typically 1-2 hours
- Pickup and drop-off locations must be specified when booking
- Regular lesson times can be arranged directly with your instructor
3.2 Rescheduling
- Lessons can be rescheduled with at least 24 hours notice
- Rescheduling is subject to instructor availability
- Multiple reschedules may incur additional charges
- Contact your instructor directly for rescheduling requests
3.3 Cancellation Policy
Refund Schedule:
- 24+ hours notice: Full refund
- 2-24 hours notice: 50% refund
- Less than 2 hours notice: No refund
- No show: No refund
Emergency Exceptions:
- Medical emergencies (with appropriate documentation)
- Family emergencies (case-by-case basis)
- Severe weather conditions deemed unsafe by instructor
- Vehicle breakdown or instructor illness
4. Student Responsibilities
4.1 Punctuality and Attendance
- Arrive at the pickup location on time
- Be ready for your lesson at the scheduled start time
- Contact your instructor immediately if running late
- Late arrivals may result in shortened lessons without refund
4.2 Required Documents
- Bring your provisional driving licence to every lesson
- Ensure your licence is valid and not expired
- Provide accurate personal information when booking
- Update your details if they change
4.3 Behaviour and Conduct
- Treat your instructor with respect and courtesy
- Follow all instructor safety guidelines
- Do not attend lessons under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Maintain appropriate conduct at all times
- Report any concerns immediately to LPlate support
4.4 Vehicle Care
- Respect the instructor's vehicle and equipment
- Follow proper vehicle operation procedures
- Report any damage or issues immediately
- You may be liable for damage caused by negligence
5. Safety and Insurance
5.1 Safety Requirements
- Always follow your instructor's safety instructions
- Inform your instructor of any medical conditions
- Wear seatbelts at all times when in the vehicle
- Do not operate the vehicle without instructor permission
5.2 Insurance Coverage
- Instructors maintain appropriate insurance for driving lessons
- You are covered under the instructor's insurance during lessons
- Coverage may not extend to personal belongings
- Report any accidents or incidents immediately
5.3 Emergency Procedures
- In case of emergency, call 999 immediately
- Follow your instructor's emergency procedures
- Notify LPlate support of any incidents
- Provide accurate information for incident reports
6. Learning and Progress
6.1 Learning Objectives
- Discuss your learning goals with your instructor
- Follow the structured learning curriculum
- Practice between lessons as recommended
- Be patient with your progress and learning pace
6.2 Driving Test Preparation
- Your instructor will advise when you're test-ready
- Test booking and fees are separate from lesson costs
- Test day services may be available for additional fees
- Results are not guaranteed regardless of lesson quality
6.3 Progress Tracking
- Your instructor will track your learning progress
- Regular feedback will be provided on your development
- You can access progress reports through the platform
- Additional practice may be recommended in certain areas
7. Communication and Support
7.1 Instructor Communication
- Primary communication should be with your assigned instructor
- Use the platform messaging system for lesson-related queries
- Contact details are provided after booking confirmation
- Maintain professional communication at all times
7.2 Platform Support
- Contact LPlate support for platform-related issues
- Report any concerns about instructor conduct
- Use the support system for billing or technical problems
- Response times vary based on inquiry type
8. Reviews and Feedback
8.1 Lesson Reviews
- You may be asked to review your lesson experience
- Reviews help maintain platform quality
- Be honest and constructive in your feedback
- Reviews are moderated for appropriateness
8.2 Instructor Ratings
- Rate your instructor based on lesson quality
- Consider punctuality, teaching ability, and professionalism
- Ratings help other students make informed choices
- Inappropriate reviews may be removed
9. Data Protection and Privacy
9.1 Personal Information
- Your data is protected under our Privacy Policy
- Instructors receive limited information necessary for lessons
- You control what additional information to share
- Report any data privacy concerns immediately
9.2 Lesson Records
- Lesson history is maintained for progress tracking
- Records help with insurance and qualification purposes
- You can request copies of your lesson records
- Data retention periods are outlined in our Privacy Policy
10. Special Circumstances
10.1 Weather Conditions
- Lessons may be cancelled for severe weather
- Instructors make final decisions on weather safety
- Full refunds provided for weather cancellations
- Alternative lesson types may be offered (e.g., theory)
10.2 Vehicle Issues
- Lessons may be cancelled due to vehicle problems
- Alternative vehicles or rescheduling will be offered
- Full refunds provided if lessons cannot proceed
- You'll be notified as soon as possible of any issues
10.3 Instructor Absence
- Replacement instructors may be arranged when possible
- You can choose to accept or decline replacement instructors
- Full refunds provided if no suitable replacement is available
- Advance notice will be given whenever possible
11. Complaints and Dispute Resolution
11.1 Informal Resolution
- First attempt to resolve issues directly with your instructor
- Contact LPlate support if direct resolution fails
- We aim to resolve most issues within 48 hours
- Document any concerns with specific details
11.2 Formal Complaints
- Submit formal complaints via our support system
- Provide all relevant details and documentation
- We will investigate all complaints thoroughly
- You'll receive updates on complaint progress
11.3 Refund Disputes
- Refund requests are handled according to our policy
- Disputed charges will be investigated
- Evidence may be required to support refund claims
- Final decisions rest with LPlate management
12. Account Management
12.1 Account Security
- Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
- Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication
- Report any unauthorized account access immediately
- You're responsible for all activity on your account
12.2 Account Closure
- You may close your account at any time
- Complete all pending lessons before account closure
- Outstanding balances must be settled
- Some data may be retained for legal purposes
13. Limitation of Liability
While we strive to provide excellent service, please note:
- LPlate facilitates connections but doesn't provide driving instruction directly
- We cannot guarantee driving test success
- Instructor performance is not directly controlled by LPlate
- Our liability is limited to the cost of affected lessons
14. Changes to Student Terms
We may update these Student Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or platform notification at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of our services constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
